You should travel. Aside from being a thrilling, life-altering and unforgettable experience, traveling reminds you that people are 99% the same and 1% different, everywhere you go. The differences are minor: skin color, language, customs and traditions, and perhaps religion. The sameness is huge: people are awesome. People are kind, welcoming to strangers, they're interesting - even fascinating - and they love their friends and families.

And.... people are racist. Pretty much everywhere. You haven't seen naked racism until you're in China. They don't even pretend to hide their disdain for Guaylos (Cantonese for westerners). Japan, a marvelous and amazing country whose people are kind, honorable, and infinitely polite, is also home to a xenophobia that knows no equal. Greece, the friendliest country in the whole Mediterranean, tolerates all, except Muslims.

When you travel you realize that the human brain takes shortcuts and thinks in patterns and is susceptible to prejudice. We accept it, before we can do anything about it. Then, hopefully, we address our lazy brain and we try to find love for all people, overriding our deep-seated prejudices.

You should travel.
