You overrate experience and you underrate intelligence. No CEO of any traditional company is capable of incubating and giving birth to anything like Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink or SolarCity. These feats demand an unstable genius who is too reckless to stop at high risk obstacles and possesses the intellectual horsepower to chart a course around the most complex scientific challenges. By comparison, the average big company CEO is a politician and a bureaucrat, better at wining and dining bankers and private equity cronies than inventing, well, anything.
Some of them have the gift of giant bullshittery, allowing them to spin a story about what they'll do 9 years from now, when in fact at that time they will be retired and golfing in Mar a Lago.
