Why does work suck?
And… does it have to be this way?
Although I love my job and the company I work at…. my personal assessment of corporate America is that 90% of corporate america is shit. 90% of jobs in corporate America are horrible, toxic, go-nowhere jobs and most people in these jobs know it. 90% of managers in corporate America are shitty managers, and the people under them hate them. 90% of companies in the US economy are not very interesting or inspiring, and some are downright toxic from wall to wall. Probably 90% of people working in corporate America hate their jobs. Perhaps they’re handcuffed to their jobs because of mortgages, auto loans, student loans and perceived lifestyle must-haves.
So why does work suck so bad?
When humans get together to accomplish something, you will get some byproducts of this collaboration. Some are healthy and, dare I say, beautiful. The sense of community, teamwork, collaboration and shared achievement that we can create when working together, is food for the soul and gives us a deep sense of meaning that is proven to help with physical health, mental health and emotional wellness. You also get friction. Goals don’t align, personal preferences differ, and ideas on method may vary wildly. This friction is good, until it isn’t. Disagreement is healthy.
