This is great advice for someone who is moderately digital, or even digitally challenged. When my wife died, I had already taken. control of her Lastpass and was checking her phone and social media accounts for suspicious activity. Her younger son struggles with substance abuse and petty crime, and sure enough, he had been in there trying to take over a bank account. Lucky for me, he's not clever enough to cover his tracks.
I'm shocked to hear your hospice nurse was complicit in cyber fraud. I hope you called the police on her. Ours was a delightful human being and I'm so thankful for her help.
I agre with you that a certain measure of digital 'paranoia' is a healthy and good thing, and can prevent unnecessary anguish after the death of a loved one. It's not that hard to understand how digital identities work, and how to protect them.
