This is a pointless, negative and thoroughly unhelpful article.
Why do we have Trump? Well it’s partly because the democrats’ microphone got kidnapped by a group of sanctimonious pompous asses from the cancel culture. They felt entitled to attack everyone whose views don’t align with theirs, and all the centrists and swing voters decided to swing the other way.
Bernie was a dangerous populist whose agenda would never fly with the business community. He would have lost in Nov 2020. Warren is a wonderful human being but I’m sorry, America is not ready for that level of redistribution, and she would have been a sitting duck for Fox News and the anti-left media.
Joe Biden was the only candidate who can secure the black vote plus (what’s left of) the union vote, plus the red state democrats. This last group is the holy grail. Progressives routinely fail to understand this. Most of America isn’t like the urban millennials eat-the-rich cannabis dispensary. The electorate simply isn’t there to back an angry socialist who wants to break up wall street, smash silicon valley and ban oil drilling.
Yes, we will all feel some disappointment at Joe Biden’s lack of resolve. He will find a middle ground on healthcare reform and it will be even more boring than obamacare, and we will be still fucked compared to civilized countries that have healthcare. He will fail to completely reform immigration, so we’ll still have a porous border and the far right will continue to weaponize that fact. He will not reform anything related to penal code, prisons and inmate rehabilitation. Sad. He won’t reform education so we’ll still have student debt that survives bankruptcy filing and is run by an organized crime unit that is above the law.
So what? Joe Biden will have to waste his entire first term dismantling the corrupt apparatus put in by agent orange. Progressives are so domestically focused they miss the gravity of what Trump has broken for America in the global trade and international relations corners. Two terms of any good president won’t fix this. America may remain compromised for twenty years because of bought judges and corrupt senior government officials too deeply entrenched to remove before they sabotage the next administration.
The reason we have agent orange is because the far left declared war on the center-left, splitting the power that would otherwise have collaborated to defeat and prevent the authoritarian regime that should never have been.
