Sadly I believe you’re right. Americans have never experienced what is actually a fairly common garden variety story of an authoritarian president rising to full dictatorship will absolute power. Many countries have experienced it.

We need to go deeper into the details of how he plans to break democracy. It might involve some or all of these:

• inciting violence against liberals, gays, minorities. Gangs or armed thugs organized by groups directly ordered by Trump, out in force and visibly beating and terrorizing peaceful protests by BLM, LGBT and others.
• voter fraud at the ballot — systemic meddling, using paid agents in swing states and battleground seats, physically removing blue candidate ballot papers
• voter fraud in electronic devices — using Russian hacking services, tampering with electronic ballot to tip the scales in key cities
• October surprise — yes of course Joe Biden will be ‘exposed’ as a pedophile or an Isis sympathizer and donor, using an elaborate scheme of disinformation, deep fakes and Russian hacking. Intelligent people won’t fall for it, but many less enlightened voters will.
• Surprise war event — also in October, Trump may declare war on Iran, or launch an attack somewhere that strategically makes no sense but destabilizes America and deflects attention from the election.
• sponsored voter suppression — this is real, and sadly has been happening quietly for a long time. It’s been reported but no real preventive action is visible yet. Expect it to continue.

Trump will motivate his base to feel cheated out of a great American future, and will incite them to take to the streets with guns and baseball bats and white supremacist flags. They will obey their great leader. This year will be much more traumatic in its second half, just when we thought we had seen it all. Hopefully we will stay strong and come out victorious, with the pro-fascism base heavily defeated, pushed back for another thirty years.
