It’s necessary to understand the basics of business and investing before offering an opinion on its merits (or lack thereof) , or we risk sounding like an angry stoned teenager ranting and raving without facts.
I too am a skeptic of private equity, but more because I believe in venture capital and in particular the Silicon Valley flavor, where investors put their faith in founders and hope they will have the emotional intelligence to take their brilliant ideas all the way to success. Private equity often replaces founders with cronies who have not invented anything but operate as seasoned managers, assuming the latter will be able to innovate. This plan fails miserably when PE buys a company that must invent its way to a bright future.
In no case does a PE firm buy a company in order to burn it to the ground.
