It's interesting that broke people think the top 10% are wealthy, when really even the 1% are not necessarily wealthy. True financial security I guess is when you know you have more than enough money for the rest of your days no matter what happens, even cancer or a family member who has to go to rehab 8 times before you give up on them. Based on the income stats I've been a 5%er and sometimes a 2%er but I have never felt like I have financial security. On the contrary, I've always felt pressured and needing to make more.
I think I'll retire when I'm 82 or when I'm dead.
