Is there hope for America?

Yes. There is plenty of hope for America.

  • America will not be #1 in many global rankings through the 21st century. That’s OK. There are many great, truly wonderful countries that aren’t #1 on any world leaderboard. Try living in Switzerland and you’ll understand this.
  • China’s GDP will overtake the US. So what. China is a shitty country with 1.5 billion wonderful people crushed by a regime that does not value people, individuals, freedom or the family. Its culture will not spread across the globe like American culture did in the 20th century. China will never have Hollywood, Disneyland, MTV and Wall Street all going at the same time. It will never have young people in other countries wishing they could be Chinese, and it won’t ever have a melting pot of immigration that created America’s unique and wonderful charm. America will keep having Woodstock moments, each one redefining society and the ethos of a generation.
  • Trump will be gone soon enough, but Trumpism won’t. We are a deeply divided nation and therefore vulnerable to disinformation attacks that corrode society. So what. We will continue to show up for work and we will eventually find a common truth somewhere in the middle, between the tribal ideologies.
  • There is a sufficiently large core of talented, educated and imaginative people in our society that we will…
