I think the point that you're missing is that the number of loopholes available to the top 1% allows them to pay far lower taxes than if they were in a fairer system. Your numbers have a blind side in that the AGI already is missing the tax breaks so we're missing hundreds of billions in tax revenues, which the middle class is funding because we don't have a lobby group and we can't buy politicians.

Also, I don't think the middle class resent the poor: they are afraid of slipping into poverty, therefore they avoid too much contact with unemployed dope smoking loafers. This is not resentment, it's common sense survivalism because we all live on a slippery slope and it's easier to slide down than climb up.

Nobody but the most avid Fox News watchers actually resents benefits paid to poor people, especially those who genuinely need help and want to stand up on their own two feet.

Wanting a reduced wealth gap is not a socialist idea: it's essential in avoiding third world status. A middle class defines a country. Every poor country has billionaires.
