I live in SF bay area, earthquake country. The quake doomers one day will be right, when the big one hits and most of what was standing is reduced to rubble, lives lost, real estate devastated, infrastructure broken for a year or more as we rebuild. But the quake doomers have been wrong, every day, for the past 30+ years.
Perhaps the collapse we're so sure will happen is also not going to happen. Especially in America, where somehow the economic and moral resilience of a people is able to recover from the dust bowl, the great depression, Spanish flu, 9/11 and other bleakness, I believe it's smarter for me to prep for boom times than for the collapse, because there probably will be no collapse.
Just a thought.
