I like this. I've been sober a long time, and I live a delicate balance between gratitude for my sobriety, respect and compliance with my 12-step cohorts, and on the other hand, a defeated sense of loss in that I can't safely take a drink. I respect people who can bully their inhibitions and worries by having a good few drinks avery now and then, letting ehir hair down and temporarily becoming a dragon slayer, then recovering next day in time to show up for life and function to their full potential. I am not one of these people, so I'll take the side effect described. The fine balance for me is to avoid the sanctimonious dipshits who get sober and judge everyone, not acknowledging how boring they have become. I have to find other ways to be funny, entertaining, interesting and fun. Doesn't always work, but in my case, it's better than going back to drinking.
