I had a friend who in 1994 said the internet was a fad. The worldwide web, he maintained, would be forgotten in a year. Nobody needs that stuff. I have no idea what that guy is doing today but he's not someone who has kept up with things.

I believe AI is a new inflection point and the dawn of a new industrial revolution. Just like the others, it will carry some people to enormous wealth, will provide automation and efficiency to hundreds of millions of people, and will leave hundreds of millions of non-adopters even further behind and unable to keep up. A lawyer who reviews and drafts documents by hand will be unemployed. A salesperson who doesn't get AI to draft their proposals will lose their job. A marketer using AI for insights and recommendations will be promoted and will do the work of 3 marketers. This is real. Drivers will be laid off because vans can drive themselves.
