I agree with Eric Schmidt's position. America does not have to drop its historically successful approach to innovation - swagger, bold investment, accepting failure as part of eventual success. But it does need to embrace tech as critical to our survival because a world run by China is not a nice world. At this time the republican wing lags in understanding of technology trends and opportunities, and a large swath of democrat electorate is turning its back on tech because they despise billionaires and resent technology eating jobs. Sadly though, the alternative also includes billionaires and technology eliminating jobs, but it will come from China and we will have no power to push it back.
