Thoughts on the issues bothering us vs. the ones we should care about

If you feel a low-level anxiety, the one telling you we’re all missing the point, getting heated and bothered about all the wrong things, while a menacing tide is building, preparing to destroy us, well so do I, and I bet we’re not wrong.
Here are my thoughts on what’s causing us to miss what really matters and why we’re getting sand in our underpants about stuff that is really less important. Let’s try it in descending order of importance:
- The wealth gap. A humongous problem for the US and its future as a leading economic powerhouse. We can’t be a functioning country with 1% of people in the palace eating caviar and 99% in the slums. The mark of a successful and civilized country is the quality of life it offers to its citizens, not only its wealthiest but its middle class, and what life is like for the poor. China, Brazil, Mexico, Philippines: no thank you these are not the chart-toppers in life quality, human development, freedom, quality of life. If America wakes up one day with no middle class left, it will be game over and almost impossible to recover.
