Actually, the MAGA guy's misery is the direct result of the Clinton era neoliberals' vision. It was a beautiful vision. It imagined a smaller, flatter world where good and people could move more freely and where trade between countries could happen with less friction. This in turn would open floodgates for research and development, making many small and developing countries great candidates to serve a giant global market instead of a tiny middle class in their home economies. It meant free dom from dictators and corrupt regimes, as bright hardworking people could move around the world in search of better jobs than their sweaty religious and locked-up cultures could offer.

This is the world we're living in. Clinton's dream came true. We elevated dozens of countries and hundreds of millions of people from abject poverty to hardworking middle classness (yeah, not a word).

Sadly though, an unforeseen side effect also materialized: the hollowing-out of the blue collar worker life in America. We sent their jobs to China. We watched as they went to work at Walmart instead - no unions, no benefits, no career path, just a shithouse job and shithouse pay.

Staggeringly, we were surprised when they found a shepherd to guide them in their newfound misery and to unite them in their anger, their outrage, at being replaced and put out with the trash.

we continue to treat them as dirty stupid scum because they didn't go to college while we went to college, got stupid degrees that mean very little and now we have idiotic little jobs that pay us $100K a year or less and somehow we think we're enlightened, intelligent and entitled to throw rocks.

Step back from this picture. How else could the decimated blue collar people respond to the situation they find themselves in?
