We’re never going back to the old normal, so….

The economy is on fire. President Biden is killing it. Covid-19 is looking like it will be a tamed but ever-present enemy by late summer. We’re attacking racism and police brutality in courts and in cities, rewriting laws and training protocols. We’re accepting that only a massive wave of government spend will rebuild our caved-in middle class, and that without this middle class we really don’t have a country. We’re pulling out of Afghanistan, realizing it’s smarter to admit our mistakes than to throw more money and human sacrifice at a horribly unsolvable situation that is not our own. We’re…

I'm still a huge Joe Biden fan. The border is a mess because people thought when Trump is gone they could walk to the border and get in. Not Biden's fault - we need to know who's coming into the country, and it takes time, it's a process. The Infrastructure bill is terrific and will rebuild the middle class, this time with diversity unlike last time we had a middle class - 1960's it was all white. Biden can't fix all the problems. He may not be able to fix the supreme court. With luck he will stay away from…

But I do hope you’ll get over your hatred of them

I try to be color blind. I believe it’s the best version of the human race that we can be, when it doesn’t matter what color your skin is, or which country you originated from and what faith you identify with. What should matter is what you do and how you behave. I try not to care what you believe or what you preach, except if I like it then I want to praise you. I watch what you do and I measure my experience as positive, neutral or negative. I try to gravitate toward people with whom I have…

And why are most of us still poor?

This is not a bleeding heart liberal rant. I’m thinking out loud in search of understanding.

It doesn’t feel like boom times does it? Most people are working hard — if they are working — just to keep their nostrils above the water. Many people are not working and that feels even worse, stimulus check and unemployment check aside, as these are temporary band aids. Pay raises are not happening. Job change is risky as the number of applicants per open job is scary enough to keep you in your current job for the time being. Many people are under-employed…

No I’m not being sarcastic. Here’s why grandpa Joe is our hero

We almost lost America in November 2020. The MAGA people had no idea what they were voting for, but if you’ve traveled to any of the former democracies like Turkey, Philippines, Brazil etc you know what it is that we narrowly avoided: a broken country where a corrupt dictator uses organized crime, the military and crony business leaders to stay in power forever.

The other Democratic candidates in 2020 wouldn’t have beaten Trump — they would not have garnered enough union and blue collar voters and would not have rebuilt the blue wall while simultaneously securing the votes of educated…

Joe Biden is the best president in 4 decades ad by far the best of the choices we had for 2020. He understands working class and blue collar families. He understands the big wheels of industry and that you can't just take them down without destroying swath of our GDP. He understands that the far left have many good points and useful ideas even thought they fail to understand economics 101. He understands that you don't even bother trying to extend olive branches to a GOP that is bought and paid for by the same people who own Donald Trump…

TSLA and Elon Musk will get it done without government help

Joe Biden’s $2 Trillion plan is genius. It will fix the political divisions using tools that the media doesn’t have access to, and it will rescue the Democratic Party from it’s fractured state of angry far left complainers and unpopular, unsettled centrists. The plan will create millions of good jobs. Not shithouse jobs in big box retail chains, with unsocial hours, fluid schedules, no benefits, no unions and random firings to maintain rotation and keep smurfs in fear of losing their shitty jobs. This in turn will energize a…

Thoughts on the issues bothering us vs. the ones we should care about

If you feel a low-level anxiety, the one telling you we’re all missing the point, getting heated and bothered about all the wrong things, while a menacing tide is building, preparing to destroy us, well so do I, and I bet we’re not wrong.

Here are my thoughts on what’s causing us to miss what really matters and why we’re getting sand in our underpants about stuff that is really less important. Let’s try it in descending order of importance:

  1. The wealth gap. A humongous problem for the US and its future as a leading economic powerhouse. We can’t be…

There's a growing section of US population disconnecting from the American Dream and walking away from ideas of wealth and success. Why? Because they have lost hope of ever achieving any of it for themselves and because the ever-expanding wealth gap causes the super rich to come across as offensive and insulting. So they choose to despise wealth and the wealthy as a coping mechanism for their unhappy situation.

However this happens only to a relative minority of the population, leaving most people loyal to the dream that all will be well when they win the lottery or somehow tap…

Monica thank you for this excellent piece and for your clear vision. You're seeing through the foggy emotion-triggering narratives to what's really going on.

I grew up in Italy then England, then came to the US seeking an escape from suffocating class systems. Sadly, the American one has blossomed while I've been here, from puppy to full-grown big dog. The divisions we're building are not helping people of color. We're attacking all the wrong causes and building social entrenchment that doesn't benefit the oppressed groups.
